Hebei University of Engineering

As one of the top universities within Hebei province, Hebei University of Engineering is situated in Handan, a city with a long history and rich cultural heritage in China. In April 2003, it was established on the basis of the amalgamation of the former individual colleges, namely Hebei Institute of Architectural Science and Technology, North China Institute of Water Conservancy and Hydro-electric Power, Handan Medicine College and Handan Agriculture College. In February 2006, Ministry of Education of the P.R.C. normally authorized that the university changed its name to Hebei University of Engineering. Now, it emphasizes on the study of civil engineering, together with other disciplines, water power, agriculture and medicine.

Endowed with a pleasant climate, picturesque surroundings and a favorable academic atmosphere, Hebei University of Engineering is an ideal place for teaching, researching and learning. With four campuses, namely Main, Zhong Hua Nan, Congtai and Mingguan, the university covers an area of 2,340 mu (1,560,800 square meters), with a building area of 830,000 square meters. There is a one class provincial library with a collection of nearly 2,166,800 volume paper books and 1,136,800 volume e-books. Moreover, it has 78 multimedia classrooms and 19 language labs. The students in each campus can utilize the advanced web, modern education system and Long-distance teaching system. The university also has 158 aptotic practice bases.

The university now has 53 specialties for undergraduate studies, 21 specialties for postgraduates, 2 provincial key disciplines, 2 provincial key constructive disciplines, 2 provincial key developmental disciplines, 1 provincial key laboratory and 3 provincial key experimental teaching centers. At present, the total number of full-time students has reached 24,698.

Among its 2,835 staff members and workers, there are two members of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, 542 full professors and associate professors. In recent years, we have undertaken as many as 97 research projects, of which 10 projects are of the State’s Natural Science Fund. About 19 awards have been received for Hebei Provincial Natural Science. Moreover, 3,311 academic papers have been published in the journals at home and abroad, and 203 papers are collected by SCI, EI and ISTP.

Hebei University of Engineering is a higher learning institution open to the world. Over the years, Hebei University of Engineering has established a broad national and international network for educational cooperation and exchanges with different countries, such as the U.S.A., the U.K., Germany, Canada, Ukraine and Australia. It began to have an undergraduate project with Canberra University of Australia and found cooperate relations with Alaska University of the U.S.A.. The World Journal of Engineering, co-originated by Hebei University of Engineering, Alaska Pacific University (U.S.A.), Loughborough University (U.K.), Urals State Academy of Architecture and Art (Ukraine), is published to all the world.
